The damage caused by natural disasters, such as earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, and flooding, or from man made/technological events such as terrorism, explosions or hazardous materials accidents can affect all aspects of a community, from government services to private enterprise to civic activities.
For the initial period immediately following a disaster — often up to 3 days or longer — individuals, households, and neighborhoods will need to be able to provide for themselves.
